The Track-Cap consists of 3 x infrared LEDs mounted in formation which emits IR light into the modified web cam. Using FreeTrack, OpenTrack or similar software outputs head tracking data via the 3 x IR LED's directly using TrackIR™, SimConnect and FSUIPC interfaces, programs that support these interfaces are regarded as having FreeTrack/OpenTrack support.

Power is delivered via a small battery box which is held via double sided velcro tapes on the rear adjustable cap band. The battery box has an on/off switch to enable the unit to be turned off when not in use.
